Cacao Almond Milk

Warm cacao almond milk in a ceramic cup on linen with soft natural light

A soft beginning… something to meet the morning slowly

There are ways of waking that don’t require urgency.
This is one of them.

Warm, lightly sweet, and gently stimulating,
this milk offers:

a steady kind of energy
the kind that doesn’t rush you forward,
but meets you where you are.

Preparation

Soak the almonds and dates overnight…
or in warm water for 15–20 minutes.

Drain and rinse well.
Remove the pits from the dates.

Add everything to a blender.

Blend longer than you think,
until completely smooth and creamy.

Strain through a nut milk bag.

Gently warm if desired,
just until warm to the touch, not hot.

Taste.

Add a splash of water if you prefer it lighter.
Add a small pinch of salt if you want it more rounded.

Pause… before the first sip.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup raw almonds

  • 2–3 soft Medjool dates

  • 1 tablespoon ceremonial cacao powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon pearl powder

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla paste

  • 1 1/2 cups filtered water

Optional

  • Small pinch of bamboo salt

  • 1 teaspoon tahini (for a deeper, more grounding version)

A Few Gentle Notes

This blend is both grounding and softly awakening.

Almonds and dates provide a steady, nourishing base—supportive for the nervous system and especially balancing for Vata, with their building and stabilizing qualities.

Cacao adds a gentle stimulation. It is warming, slightly bitter, and can help lift heaviness, making it supportive for Kapha in moderation, while still offering clarity for the mind.

Pearl powder is traditionally associated with calming and restorative qualities, often used to support the skin and bring a subtle sense of ease to the system.

Vanilla softens the edges, rounding the experience into something more comforting and cohesive.

Serving this warm makes it easier for the body to receive—especially supportive for digestion and for those feeling depleted, cold, or ungrounded.

If you add tahini, the drink becomes more deeply nourishing and grounding. This can be especially supportive for Vata, or during times when the body is asking for more substance and steadiness.

Bamboo salt adds a subtle mineral quality and gently enhances the flavor.

For a lighter, more energizing version…
add a small pinch of matcha.

When this may be most supportive

  • On slow mornings where you feel a sense of greater presence.

  • When transitioning away from coffee

  • When the body feels depleted or ungrounded

  • As a mid-morning or afternoon reset

Inspired by the cacao almond milk latte from Pop & Bottle, and slowly adapted into a more nourishing, at-home preparation.

Closing

Warmed. Held. Slowly received.
